If we honestly take a look at the “History of White People” as Historian Neil Painter calls it, we will witness that with their discovery of the world has also come domination and colonialism of the world. With their power have come white privilege. With their civilized perceptions have come superiority propaganda. With their large numbers have come minority oppression.
While people may assume that I am picking on a whole race since the beginning of time, I am not. I must admit that there has been significant advances and contributions made by the “majority” but history does not lie. There has also been Death and dominance committed by the majority of the world(whites) on the minority (native Americans, Easterners, and Africans). This fact also does not limit just the white race, but it also includes any group that has been in the majority (Germans) and have taken advantage of a minority (Jews).
The comic video “Minorities Reach Out To Whites” from the Jimmy Kimmel Show poses an interesting question. If the majority became the minority and minorities the majority, would they then switch roles of oppressor and oppressed? The video suggest that they would not, although in the video it appears that in the name of retribution, the minorities would be justified.
But I think the video also poses other deeper questions. As much of good character we may think we have, what would our actions be when given a higher position of power (numbers or position) in the world? Would we abuse it and abuse others? Are we really confident that we would not respond like the Hutus, the Turks, or White Colonists? Could we honestly bet our lives that we would not?
