The Examined Life is by far my favorite philosophy film. Filmmaker, Astra Taylor, takes philosophers’ walks with some of the most renowned figures in philosophy. During the walks they speak on topics such as meaning, our obligation to the poor, disabilities, meaning of philosophy, and the state’s role in the life of the individual.
Some of my favorite walks include Peter Singer’s critical analysis of greed and giving as he takes a scroll through Times Square. I also enjoy the in car chat with Cornel West as he talks about what is philosophy and what it takes to be a philosopher.
The documentary is intellectually stimulating and also assessable to those outside of philosophy. Enjoy.
