“Every revolution requires its thinkers. Every movement is grounded in a philosophy”- Dr. Anthony Monteiro.

The Museum of the City of New York has a wonderful exhibit called “Activist New York”. It is a well informed exhibit that chronologically takes a look at activism since New York City’s inception. It begins with the Quakers fight for religious freedom and then moves onto to suffrage, abolitionist movement, civil rights and gay movement. It also includes activism that may not be so popular such as settlement houses, activism through theatre and land revitalization. The exhibit concludes with Islamic activism.

I recommend this exhibit for all activists but I think it is for anyone interested in american history, oppression, social movements, philosophy, and of course art. The exhibit will be open until Dec. 31. They also have a project in which you can upload your own images of activism that is currently taking place in New York City.
